Dine Out: Pantry Story’s Croissant Handbag Is the Ultimate Portable Snack
Pantry Story began as an outlet for Mutiara Sucipto, then a student baker, to sell her pan-Asian inspired creations via Instagram during the pandemic. It quickly snowballed into a market pop-up before becoming a fully fledged bakery.
Unlike most bakeries, where pastries are kept behind a glass counter, Pantry Story’s menu revolves around a large, circular display table in the middle of the room. On it you might find the bakery’s biggest hit – fudgy brownie mochi (brochi) – alongside fluffy green buns filled with pandan custard, kimchi and cheese focaccia, and brisket hand pies.
For the whole month of August, this central table will feature a new menu item: an edgy new croissant, shaped like a handbag and designed for carrying around. Since August marks the end of truffle season, this buttery new accessory will be filled with truffle brûlée custard.
