Broadsheet encourages intelligent conversation and welcomes questions, comments and debate on its social media channels.

As an organisation that supports many industries, from food and drink to fashion and entertainment, we focus on constructive contributions, and will not provide a forum for trolling, abuse or personal attacks of any kind.

We value the opinion of our readers, but will distinguish between comments that contain constructive, relevant arguments and those that are abusive, offensive or could be construed as an attack.

We expect all commenters to consider the impact of their words and take responsibility for them. To keep this space respectful and inclusive, do not post content or comments that:

• violate the terms and conditions of the social media platform hosting our channels;
• are false, misleading, deceptive, or fraudulent in any way;
• discriminate against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, disability or political beliefs;
• contain nudity, sexually explicit or suggestive content;
• depicts or promotes violence, harmful behaviour, illegal activity, or distressing content;
• infringes on another person’s rights, including intellectual property and privacy;
• is inflammatory, defamatory, offensive, threatening or otherwise inconsistent with Broadsheet’s values;
• constitutes cyberbullying, harassment or trolling;
• use offensive or inappropriate language

If we decide a comment is not keeping with the spirit of this guide, we will remove it. To maintain a safe space, we may mute, suspend, or permanently block your access to our social media channels at our discretion. In serious cases, we may also report misconduct to the platform or relevant authorities.

We moderate and monitor our social media channels using a post-moderation process. While we work to uphold our community standards, there may be instances where inappropriate content appears before we have the chance to remove it. If you see an interaction on Broadsheet’s social media channels that concerns you or are aware of a post or comment that is in breach of these guidelines, please let us know.

This guide is not designed to stop people discussing things they’re passionate about. It is a reminder to think about how you express your views, and to be aware that some readers may misunderstand you.

Thank you for respecting Broadsheet as a space for passionate, considered conversation, and for respecting the views of those you engage with.

From time to time, you may see alcohol-related content on Broadsheet’s social media channels. We encourage responsible consumption and remind those of legal drinking age to follow the safe drinking guidelines set by the National Health & Medical Research Council.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that Broadsheet's social media channels may contain images, voices or names of deceased persons in photographs, film, audio recordings or printed material.
