Dine Out: Ricos Tacos x Jonathan “Goatboy” Zaragoza Weekend

One of America’s best taco chefs is flying in to Sydney for three bookings-essential events. Plus, there’ll be tequila tastings, a Saturday carne asada party and birria pies on the bar all week long.

The cheerful courtyard at Redfern’s historic Norfolk Hotel is home to a taco cart. At Ricos, chef Toby Wilson serves his signature al pastor and crisp fish tacos to punters with pints in hand. Upstairs, Club Ricos is a neon-lit disco lined with football jerseys.

Over the weekend of Broadsheet’s inaugural Dine Out festival, Wilson is handing the reins to acclaimed Chicago-born chef Jonathan Zaragoza of Birrieria Zaragoza, who goes by the moniker Goatboy. You’re about to find out why.

At Ricos, Goatboy will be cooking birria-style goat tacos on Thursday and traditional pork al pastor on Friday. Then on Saturday August 16, a charcoal barbeque is being wheeled out for a carne asada party with a side of salad, fries and salsa.

Bookings are essential for these three events.

There will also be cocktail masterclasses and tequila tastings across all three days. And for the full week of Dine Out (August 11–17), a special birria pie will be on the bar menu.
