Fitzroy craft-beer bar Two Row will close next week. It’s not all bad news, though – the site at 351 Smith Street will reopen as a new outlet for Richmond specialty-beer retailer and bar, Slowbeer.

The Slowbeer team opened Two Row in 2014 in partnership with Tiffany Waldron, who managed the bar. The change comes after Slowbeer bought Waldron out of her share of the business.

Chris Menichelli, co-owner of Slowbeer, says one plan is to introduce a pool table upstairs to encourage customers to use the space.

“We always really liked the upstairs space, we used it a lot for events as Two Row,” says Menichelli. “I want it to be pretty relaxed.”

Waldron has run social-media and beer-consulting business Beer Girl Bites since 2011 and hopes to build on that. She also plans to get more involved with the Pink Boots Society, a group that supports women in the beer industry through scholarships and events.

Two Row’s last day will be Sunday August 14. Slowbeer Fitzroy will open early September.
