Lug & Carrie’s Melbourne store brings its electric cargo bikes to a bright white-brick warehouse in the leafy backstreets of Fitzroy. The e-bike brand, which also has outposts in Sydney and Brisbane, hopes to reduce the number of short car trips you take, swapping traffic and petrol for pedal power.

Head in-store to schedule a free test ride of one of its e-bikes displayed on timber platforms. Models range from long-tail cargo bikes that can carry passengers, pets and groceries, to compact folding designs. All feature four different levels of pedal assistance, so you can choose exactly how much help you want.

Bikes can be customised with accessories such as child seats, panniers, rain covers and cargo boxes. And if you’re not ready to buy, Lug & Carrie’s subscription program offers an ongoing rental service with no upfront costs.
