When Neighbourhood opened in 2016, it took just a few weeks to amass a steady stream of regulars. They sit on the two benches on the footpath, or stand alongside the counter. Excellent coffee is the attraction here, but the banter is on-point too.

That’s just about all on offer as the space is no more than a beautiful timber counter hosting two baristas, a coffee machine, a few daily pastries and the occasional vase of natives. Beans are roasted by the neighbourhood team with aid from the experts and roasting machines at Artificer. Milk is from John Fairley, just 90 kilometres away; and the non-dairy alternative is made from oats. Those pastries are most likely chocolate-dipped croissants from Sydney pastry royalty Penny Fours and Woah Nelly! Doughnuts.
