When Neighbourhood opened in 2016, it took just a few weeks to amass a steady stream of regulars. They sit on the two benches on the footpath, or stand alongside the counter. Excellent coffee is the attraction here, but the banter is on-point too.
Owner Sean McManus (ex-Single Origin Roasters and Artificer) and co-barista Marc Wiebe man the coffee machine with precision and charisma inside the compact street-front space. Porter and Maple created the tiny, clean-lined space that features Tasmanian oak and Australian walnut, with the occasional vase of Australian natives and bags of beans in the corner.
Beans are roasted by McManus and the team at Artificer. Milk is from John Fairley, just 90 kilometres away; and the non-dairy alternative is made from oats. Chocolate-dipped Penny Fours croissants and Woah Nelly! Doughnuts might be available during the week, if you’re lucky.
