Annie Vickers and Eric Grumont have run Wistaria Tea Rooms since 2001. Set along Murray Esplanade, the old homestead is at home among the horse and carts, blacksmiths and woodworkers of the old port.

The cafe does a roaring Devonshire tea trade. Breakfast is best on the front lawn overlooking High Street where you can soak up some morning sunshine. The back verandah is cool and leafy. There are cosy tea rooms indoors.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, try the baked beans or spaghetti on sourdough toast; or perhaps the curried egg and lettuce, or turkey and cranberry, focaccias.

The Tassie Devil features smashed avocado with Tasmanian salmon, Meredith Dairy goat’s feta and a poached egg. The pancakes are light and fluffy, served with fresh berries, maple syrup and yoghurt.

At lunchtime there are sizeable hamburgers with chips and a home-style chicken parma. Vegetarian and gluten-free appetites are also catered to.
