From Queen Vic to South Melbourne, Prahran, Preston and Footscray, Melbourne is home to a plethora of beloved markets specialising in fresh food and produce. And for fashion, crafts and gifts, we’ve been hitting up Rose Street Artists Market, the Camberwell Sunday Market, Fitzroy Mills and Hunter Markets for years.
While we’ve always been lucky to have a diverse network of markets across the city – with some even running for more than a century – Melbourne has also welcomed some recent new additions. And they’re already making their mark.
From The Market Pavilion at Chadstone to other new arrivals around town, here are three of the best new places to shop (and eat) around town.

SIGN UPThe Market Pavilion
Chadstone might conjure up images of a fashion shopping spree or a day with the kids at the Legoland Discovery Centre, but now there’s a new drawcard: a precinct dedicated to food, shopping and dining. The Market Pavilion specialises in artisan and fresh produce, and brings some much-loved brands and eateries from across the city to the south-east, all under one roof.
The hub is designed for the modern shopper, with a food concierge that will store your purchases (including chilled and frozen items) while you shop around the centre. There’s even an AI-powered recipe tool to help you with recipe inspiration for the ingredients you’ve bought, or to plan a dinner party on the fly.
Stop by the latest boutique from Fitzroy’s Flowers Vasette for a bouquet to elevate your table setting, then head to Colonial Fresh for seasonal fruit and vegetables, or Fishmonger (from the team behind sushi bar Maguro) for sashimi-grade seafood, oysters and lobster. At That’s Amore Cheesery, you can order cacio e pepe mixed straight in a wheel of Grana Padano, then purchase cheeses to take home. Or grab a ready-made meal from Blakeaway, Portsea’s beloved specialty grocer and cafe that’s now expanding across the state.
You’ll also find cult-favourite lifestyle brands under the same roof. Hommey, known for its striped robes and bedding, now has a store here, while Readings caters to all your literary needs. Maita, the sleek new Asian grocer from the team behind Tang, rounds it out with everything from Japanese ceramics and a pick-your-own-herb bar to cube croissants, onigiri and robot-made coffee.
Younghusband Market
The team behind the ever-popular Rose Street Artists Market in Fitzroy has landed in Kensington. Held outside a redeveloped 122-year-old redbrick wool store, the new monthly market showcases products by independent makers and designers – think hand-poured candles, ceramics, knits, jewellery, art prints and locally made garments. It’s also a reliable source for gifts (or treats for yourself), with food and coffee stalls to sustain your browsing.
Slow Food Edgewater Market
Following farmers markets in West Footscray and Spotswood, this new monthly market in Maribyrnong only showcases produce grown or made in Victoria or within 100 kilometres of the border. Each stallholder is also carefully vetted to ensure their practices are ethical and regenerative if applicable. Expect to find an array of fresh seasonal produce, small-batch cheeses, bread, free-range eggs, organic meats and more. It’s waste-free, so don’t forget your reusable bag and bottles.
