Though we’re spending a lot more time at home right now, there’s still a big wide world out there. And thanks to a virtual science trail launching on August 15, you and your kids will soon be able to explore it from your living room via immersive games, talks from top scientists and live panels. The month-long Sydney Science Trail is a partnership between the Australian Museum and Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, and kicks off this National Science Week.
Head out on a virtual, 360-degree tour of the Royal Botanic Garden. Or dive into a live, underwater digital expedition in the Coral Sea. Learn about how bushfires have their good and bad sides in the Australian Fires – Impacts and Opportunities live panel; explore how bush tucker has been used by First Nations people for tens of thousands of years; and discover the native plant species that live in your backyard.
Aussie science legend Dr Karl Kruszelnicki will host a panel on what he describes as “the big questions of science”, while conservationist and explorer Tim Flannery will chat about what climate change means for us. There’ll also be video games, virtual exhibitions and lab tours, and a host of other interactive learning experiences.
Sydney Science Trail is free to take part in. Register here.
