Paddington Alimentari
Features
This gem is a little slice if Italy hidden in the heart of Paddington. Originally established as an authentic delicatessen, Paddington Alimentari fast became a busy little cafe for locals, resident Italians and visitors lucky enough to stumble across it.
Occupying the last shopfront terrace on busy William Street, Alimentari effectively bridges the retail and residential populations of Paddington. Inviting and familiar, it is part shop, part second kitchen to many of the regulars who frequent it daily (often more than once).
Like the paninis and Allpress coffee, the interior is toasty-warm and full of charm, as if transported from a small village in the hills of Umbria. Dried oregano and legs of prosciutto hang from suspended timber ladders and although seating is limited, everyone seems to find a place, sharing benches, high tables and small stools.
The all-Italian staff are obliging and proud, offering locals their fresh ricotta, tomato and basil bruschetta with an Italian language lesson on the side. The deli counter is filled with incredible cheeses, meats and olives. Select some (or all) for an antipasto platter while you're there, or order one to collect and take home.
