Gusto on the Beach
Features
Belaroma was a long-term supporter of the South Curl Curl Surf Life Saving Club before it took over the space it now inhabits inside the club. The space is now a flagship for its Gusto coffee brand.
Here there is nothing but a beachfront pavement between the cafe and the beach, and the building has the uniquely Australian feel of a Surf Life Saving club. Its location draws in everyone from early-morning swimmers and couples strolling the sands, to die-hard surfers taking a break between sessions.
Inside, things are simple. A central communal table is surrounded by more intimate seating. There are bright yellow splashes here and there from cushions and stools. The eye is inevitably drawn to the vista of the South Curl Curl ocean pool and an endless panorama of swelling sea. There is also a tiny but busy open kitchen.
Highlights on the menu include brunchy bacon and egg rolls and Israeli cous cous salads. There are also brioche buns filled with smoky slow-cooked pulled pork or shredded beef.
Espresso is the favoured method. The beans are roasted locally in neighbouring Manly Vale at the Belaroma Coffee Centre.
