New gallery space Fort Delta continues its fresh vision for contemporary art in Melbourne with New Acquisitions Volume II, the second instalment of three inaugural exhibitions presenting the gallery’s newly acquired artworks from local and emerging artists.
Showing until the end of the month, the exhibition features the works of 12 artists including Aiden Morse, Lance Delary-Simpson, Genevieve Reynolds and others, who have more or less explored and re-imagined the Colour Field movement (a style of painting that is characterised by large, solid areas of colour). Displaying a mix of photography, painting, sculpture and installation-based works, the exhibition is an insight into the gallery’s developing identity.
Opening in May this year and located in the basement of Capitol Arcade, Fort Delta is run by Helen Sweatman and curator James Bowen. The space is shared with retail store Centre for Style, which stocks emerging and experimental fashion, a bookshop and six studio spaces.

SIGN UPNext on the gallery’s program is a collaboration with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week to present Mapping Melbourne Fashion, a projection mapping project with video artist Kit Webster.
“What we’re trying to do is look at the synergy between the art, fashion, and emerging digital design industry,” says Sweatman.
The gallery will present collaborations with Melbourne Fringe Festival and Pozible in the months ahead.
New Acquisitions Volume II shows at Fort Delta until August 31.
