The slick, futuristic interior design immediately sets this place apart from its neighbours. Architect turned owner Insu Kim has given Seoul Soul an industrial feel, with white tiled walls, raw concrete floors and wire light fittings. The design also makes it clear that it’s all about the barbecue at Seoul Soul, with table grills dominating the restaurant's space alongside a larger grill to sit around street side.

There’s also Korean tapas on offer, which features bite-sized dishes (such as grilled tiger prawn skewers or deep-fried dumplings) that go perfectly with the selection of Korean beers available. Clearly it's all working though, with a second store in Northcote doing just as well as it's Richmond sibling.

This tiny Korean joint is a welcome change to the usual suspects on Melbourne's pho mile.
