Hops Scotch & Beans
Hops, Scotch and Beans sound like a killer combination. And, as a venture from the Brew group, owner of the ever-popular Brew in Burnett Lane, you can trust they are.
During the day the HSB functions as a cafe, with beans roasted on-site by partner Louie Louie Coffee Roasters. The house blend is a mixture of Peruvian, Honduran and Cuban beans, known as South Central, and it goes down brilliantly with something from the eclectic menu.
In the early morning hours, the bubble and squeak with hollandaise and poached eggs is a hearty favourite, or for those who like to start the day with something sweet, the HSB 65 Roses is a ridiculously good looking, red velvet take on standard pancakes that manages to avoid being overly sweet.
By night, the focus turns to the bar, with a selection of local craft beers on tap. The venue supports local brewers through Project 150, whereby featured breweries are located no more than 150 kilometres away. The cocktail menu features a wide range of whisky-based Prohibition-era classics, but the whole venue comes together in the Espresso Martini, with both the bar and cafe sides of the business together in one glass.
