A Mother’s Milk combines the classic independent-cafe aesthetic of wood, brick and graffiti to create a reliable all-rounder for Unley’s inhabitants.

It’s made good use of the homey space, converting an old broom cupboard into booth seating and utilising the footpath down the side for extra table space. A set of school lockers by the counter and a record player add to the retro-nostalgic atmosphere.

The menu is a mix of cafe classics such as baked eggs and smashed avocado. Unique alternatives include Portuguese sardines with purple onion and salsa verde on toast; green chilli eggs with green banana pepper, coriander and jalapeno sauce; and huevos rancheros served on a soft tortilla.

Coffee by local roaster The Coffee Barun is pulled from the Synesso. The ever-changing roast can be found on the blackboard behind the bar. Other drinks include Zokoko hot chocolate; feijoa and lime blossom iced tea; and a range of freshly made juices and smoothies.
