The Loose Caboose occupies Adelaide’s oldest railway station, which still sees trains whizzing by just two metres from your cappuccino. Owner Katie Price brought the station back from its dilapidated state while sticking to the bones of the 160-year-old heritage-listed building.

The beans are roasted on site in a large roaster that looks down upon the tables from a part of the building once reserved for ladies only. They’re used in the Caboose Blend for espresso, while the pour over, filter and cold brew origins can be found on the coffee menu that stands above the (working) fireplace.

Fresh juices and smoothies are also available, as well as Love Teas, organic soft drinks and gluten-free desserts. The all-day menu changes regularly but might include sticky hoisin pork, vegan bibimbap and peanut and jelly french toast.

The last page of the menu includes a collection of newspaper snippets from the station’s rich history which included a safe heist explosion in 1930, and little Ruth Roberts who fell off a foot bridge onto the roof of a passing train and lived to tell the tale.
