Market Street
Features
Three Central Market traders (Dough, Say Cheese and Smelly Cheese) are behind Market St, a modern take on the local corner deli.
On the shelves you’ll find McClure’s Pickles (imported from Detroit), Cape Grim sparkling water, Cornflakes, duck and beetroot pâté, Vegemite, French butter and Heinz baked beans. There isn’t a lot of shelf space, but each item has been carefully selected for its quality and/or nostalgia.
The cafe section is light and airy, with coffee from D’Angelo featuring in both the hot coffees and cold brews (which are bottled in store). Most of the menu is designed to be taken away, but taking a seat can be rewarded with ricotta hotcakes, fish of the day or a triple-cheese toastie.
Market St also houses the commercial kitchen for Dough, so expect to be entertained watching baguettes, cheese sticks, éclairs and tarts paraded past on their way to Dough’s stall 50 metres up the road.
