Where We Met
Features
Ben Allen has worked behind some of the city’s busiest coffee machines, including at his parents’ former business, Nature’s Providore in Malvern. This time it’s his name on the lease. He’s opened this 40-seater cafe on South Terrace with his mother, Kate.
The cafe doubles as a retail outlet for Kangarilla coffee roaster Dawn Patrol. Shop the roaster’s full portfolio or a try a rotating single origin on-site.
The menu reflects the relationships Allen forged through Nature’s Providore. Produce comes from Patlin Growers, and lentils, white beans and chickpeas come from Simon Bryant’s Dirty Inc. They pick up the rest at the Wayville Farmers’ Market. It’s reflected in dished such as the bruschetta, made with Mylor Bakery bread, Paris Creek Farm goat’s cheese, locally grown tomatoes and homemade basil pesto.
The space is at the base of an apartment building. It has floor-to-ceiling windows that capitalise on killer parklands views.
