Cash Savage And The Last Drinks at Estonian House
When you buy a ticket to watch your favourite band or singer, it’s likely your concert money is going straight to big industries, production costs, and venue hire rather than to the artist’s pocket.
Melbourne-born Aria-nominated alternative rock band, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks are hosting a two-day event to Brunswick West’s not-for-profit community venue Estonian House. Cash Savage and other band members will take control of every aspect of the event to ensure all profits benefit the local music scene.
The line-up will feature a rotation of Aussie acts – who each include a member of the Last Drinks – including Our Carlson, Uncle Kutcha Edwards, Georgia Knight, Kate Alexander, Howl At The Moon, Real Sunnies, Joshua Seymour, Thomy Sloane & Lucy Waldron, and DJs Rolling Blackouts.
Along with band manager Nick Finch, the group will be directing booking fees to eligible charities, offering cash discounts to sidestep banking fees, and assigning band members to serve drinks and even mop the floors. This way, all profit goes directly to musicians instead of big corporations.
“These days you buy a ticket to see a band you love, and your booking fee goes to some company whose majority shareholders have been tied to weapons, climate catastrophe and human rights abuses,” Savage says. “Not to mention the bank’s transaction fee every time you buy a drink at the bar.”
Tickets are available for single-day or discounted two-day passes here. There’s also a family-friendly show on Saturday afternoon with free entry for children under the age of 12.
