Tide by Spencer Tunick at Brisbane Powerhouse
On October 27, US photographer Spencer Tunick staged his largest Australian installation to date, temporarily closing Brisbane’s Story Bridge to photograph 5500 nude bodies in a monumental artwork soon to debut at Brisbane’s Melt Festival.
While those images are still under wraps, festivalgoers can get an early glimpse of Tunick’s artistry through Tide, a video projection exhibition showcasing photographic artworks, footage and stories, filmed during Tunick's 2023 visit, when he shot more than 100 participants from the Brisbane/Meanjin community.
Tide marks the first chance for locals to experience a Tunick exhibition on Australian soil – he's known for orchestrating large-scale nude installations in iconic locations – up close.
Tide sets the stage for Tunick's upcoming Rising Tide installation, which will feature those photos from the Story Bridge, and continues the artist's three-decade journey of exploring large-scale nudity as a powerful and transformative art form.
The exhibition also forms part of Brisbane Powerhouse's Melt festival, an open-access celebration of queer art and culture.
Entry is free, but restricted to attendees aged 18 and older. Photography is not permitted.
