East End Cellars is one of Australia’s most respected wine traders. It’s been in business since 1998, stocking a huge range of regions and varieties. If you’re keen to sample Romanian wine or some Austrian gewürztraminer, this is the place to come to do so.

After moving across the road to a new Vardon Place location in 2014, the shop launched The Tasting Room, a cellar door in the heart of the CBD. The bar pours a good number of wines by the glass, or you can select from some 15,000 plus bottles on show.

If that seems a bit intimidating, try a tasting flight, focusing on a different boutique or emerging winery every week. Each is accompanied by a selection of cheeses or meats that match with the wines, and a chat with one of the store’s modish, knowledgeable staff.

Owner and wine savant Michael Andrewartha is excited by the educational opportunities his business can pursue in its expanded premises, hosting regular events, tastings and launches.

Timber packing crates formed a key aesthetic element at the old East End. These were carried across the road to feature prominently in the new build. Heavily referencing regional vineyard architecture, the space is just the spot for a cheeky lunchtime red or to convene before a night out, any time of the year.
