My Kingdom For A Horse
My Kingdom For A Horse is a short gallop from the iconic Adelaide Central Market, and it’s a strong contender for your brunch-time dollar. The breezy, colourful venue serves food all day, roasts coffee on-site and seats 100 patrons in comfortable retro-Danish style.
Chef and patissier Emily Raven closed her French-inspired Cafe 54 to teach tertiary-level hospitality. After watching her students fearlessly achieve great things, she traded her whiteboard for a chopping-board and headed back into the restaurant game. She handles the business’ coffee production (using a five-kilogram Probat roaster) while partner Rachel Mead applies her retail and HR expertise front of house.
The coffee roasted on-site tastes mild and sweet, emulating Melbourne’s top roasters, such as Small Batch and Market Lane. A team of experienced baristas runs the brew bar, which is fitted with all the latest gear for espresso service and filter coffee.
A genuine kids’ menu, private breastfeeding area, liquor license and communal tables demonstrate a savvy understanding of the often-marginalised (and lucrative) family demographic, adding a few extra draw-cards to the venue’s already stacked deck.
