Wall to Wall Festival 2019
For three days in April, the small township of Benalla – around a two hours’ drive north-east of Melbourne – will again become the canvas for the Wall to Wall Festival.
Now in its fifth year, the festival attracts thousands of “out-of-towners” annually to see international and local artists literally paint the town. The result is world-class street art spread across building walls, silos, gallery spaces and even the local church.
Every paint-worthy wall in Benella becomes part of the huge open-air exhibition, with live painting day and night. This year's line-up includes Greek muralist Insane51; LA-based Lolo, renowned for her space-inspired mythic creations; and famed Brooklyn street artist Elle, whose work has been exhibited in the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London.
Some murals are replaced year on year, while others by top artists such as Rone, Guido van Helten, Adnate, DVATE, Sirum and Kaff-eine remain. Adnate’s towering three-storey painting of Burmese girl on an old SEC buildings was once voted eighth best mural in the world.
There are street-art tours – including some after dark for the first time – plus a car-wash takeover, workshops, exhibitions, and a public paint-by-numbers mural, so visitors can leave their mark, too.
