Shopping can be a tactile experience. It comes down to the texture, the nuances of the wash, where the garment flatters or falters.

Scandinavian fashion importer Some Agency knows this. It has opened its first concept store, The Waiting Room, in Emporium and is prescribing Nordic denim with the wearer in mind and an eye for classic design.

The Waiting Room is the largest global retailer of Dr Denim Jeansmakers, a family-owned label from Sweden. It is also the fist outlet in Australia to stock Dr Denim’s entire range (previously, only some pieces have been available in FAT, General Pants and other retailers). All the Dr Denim combinations of different denim weights, cuts and patterns will be at The Waiting Room as well as shorts, skirts, chinos and dresses. The men’s, women’s and unisex styles are all stitched to stand the test of time.

Sitting alongside Dr Denim is another Swedish label, A.O. CMS. It echoes simple and utilitarian Scandinavian design too, with refined basics in neutral colours; slate black shirts, earthy red T-shirts and white singlets. The Waiting Room also stocks Royal Republiq leather goods (belts, bags and boots of Danish durability) as well as boutique global brands covering beauty products, jewellery, socks and knits.

The space is subtly masculine, with steel-green light fixtures which hang low over a studded industrial workbench. It’s a space for touching, feeling and trying those threads.
