Features

Minh and Nhu Nguyen have been supplying Sydney with quality Vietnamese since 2007. What was once Summerrolls (which they also owned) is now Madame Nhu – a restaurant and bar chain that focuses on Asian beers, cocktails and Vietnamese street food.

The brand serves some of the best pho in Sydney – no easy feat considering the vast number of contenders. The signature dish, pho dac biet features three different cuts of Tasmanian beef, floating in a sea of rice noodles and a distinctive eight-hour beef broth.

If you tend to enjoy your meals in novelty portions, the Saigon Sliders should satisfy. The sliders are baby banh mi, available in vegetarian, chicken, pork or duck options.

An impressive number of Asian beers feature on the drinks list, including the usual suspects Tsingtao and Bintang. The not-so-usual Tama no Megumi, a Japanese pale ale by Ishikawa, is worth a try. The cocktail list changes regularly to keep things fresh.

Each outlet’s interior pays tribute to the rapidly disappearing French villas that once populated Saigon: tropical plants, shuttered windows and pendant lighting enclosed in bird cages.

With an emphasis on authentic street food at reasonable prices, it’s no wonder the Madame Nhu brand continues to expand.
