$20 Opera Tickets for First-Timers
There are plenty of misconceptions about opera, particularly about it being for the older crowd. And if you've never seen a show for exactly that reason, the best way to challenge that myth is to see it for yourself.
Opera Australia is offering 2000 first-time opera goers a chance to catch its production of Puccini's Tosca for just $20 per ticket. Tosca is known for being a good first opera: it's a fast-paced love story set in 1943 Nazi-occupied Rome that has highs, lows, an archetypal villain and a strong heroine.
A ballot system is in place for the 2000 tickets: 1000 applicants will be selected to buy two tickets for $20 each, with winners contacted by email to complete their $40 purchase.
The ballots will take place weekly throughout Tosca's run. Unsuccessful applicants remain in the ballot for $20 deals to future Opera Australia shows.
