The democratic nature of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival sets it apart from most other celebrations of fashion. Anyone can attend the runway shows and the extensive cultural program brings the world of fashion to the entire city.
This year, we’re proud to be supporting the opening event, which kicks off the weeklong festival in that same democratic spirit. The huge party will be taking place this Thursday, March 8 at Central Pier, and with runway shows, festival previews and a killer live music line up, it’s going to be a great night.
The laneway between Sheds 9 and 14 will be transformed into an open-air fashion block party with street food vendors and much more.
David Jones will be presenting two runway shows at the event, showcasing their incredible stable of Australian designers. Last year’s winner of Australia’s Next Top Model, Montana Cox and up-and-comer Samantha Harris will hit the runway in designs from Alex Perry, Bassike, Kirrily Johnston, camilla and marc, Josh Goot and many more.
The musical side of things is set to be just as enthralling, with WA via Sydney buzz-band Canyons hitting the stage, Van She Tech (the DJ half of Van She) re-emerging from hibernation, former 1200 Techniques collaborators Nfa and DJ Peril reuniting and Grant Smilie and ‘Friend of the Festival’ Andy Murphy hitting the decks.
A shift from the more exclusive openings of past Fashion Festivals, this year’s party is set to bring the fashion industry and the public together – the missive behind LMFF as a whole.
There are hundreds of shows and events that make up the LMFF program this year. It's hard to lnow where to begin but we'll point you in the right direction on the events you simply shouldn't miss. So visit Broadsheet daily during the Festival for updates on all the goings-on.
The LMFF Opening Event presented by David Jones, supported by Broadsheet and Nova 100 is on Thursday March 8 from 6.30pm. Tickets from $95, available here.
