Moonlight Cinema returns to Central Lawn at Royal Botanic Gardens this summer with a strong line-up of films that spans 21 advanced screenings and 25 new releases.

Guillermo del Toro’s Golden Lion-winning The Shape of Water is one of this season’s highlights. It vacillates between different genres such as thriller, romance and science fiction, all the while keeping the audience uncomfortable.

An advanced screening of Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game is also on the bill. It stars Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner and Michael Cera.

Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s famous 1934 novel Murder on the Orient Express will no doubt sell out quickly. Shot in 65-millimeter format, the murder mystery offers sweeping wide shots as the camera follows a passenger train’s journey from Istanbul. The attention to detail is acute as the film resurrects the lavish grandeur of travel in the ’30s. The plot climaxes around an avalanche, which derails the train and simultaneously its passengers’ lives as a brutal murder is revealed. The cast includes Judi Dench, Olivia Colman, Penélope Cruz, Leslie Odom Jr, Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp.

For those looking for more of a scare, IT will have you avoiding drains on the way home. For a dose of nostalgia there are classics such as Dirty Dancing, Back To The Future and Love Actually.

Stephan Elliott’s, Swinging Safari (staring Guy Pearce and Kylie Minogue) and Warwick Thornton’s Sweet Country are also featured.

Families can get together under the stars and view Paddington 2, Coco and Ferdinand.

Vendors will also provide hot food and you can get drinks from the licensed bar.

The Moonlight Cinema runs from December 1, 2017 to April 1, 2018.
