Clare Lennon wants to cook for everyone as if she’s their “trouble and strife” (wife) – hence the name of her Goodwood cafe. The area has always been an eclectic community, and Trouble & Strife fits in well, with an equally diverse crowd of school mums, young people and the oldies, not forgetting the dogs that are frequently found beside the chairs outside.

The menu is short, sharp, and written on the wall for all to see. As well as the regular menu featuring the classics – BLT, bacon and eggs, muesli, and so on – daily specials are ever-changing and seasonal. Like any good spouse, Lennon supports her neighbours, her meat is bought next door and fruit and veg a few shops down the road.

The coffee is sourced from South Australia’s own Dawn Patrol roasters in Kangarilla, with fine quality single origin beans. It’s a wise idea to try the banana smoothie, and the carrot cake – this is Trouble & Strife’s cheeky contribution to your five a day of fruit and veg.
