There are no foxes at Fox Coffee, but owner James May keeps his dog, Taco, around in case you need some love. He opened the warehouse roastery in January 2016.

After waiting tables in high school and later warehousing for Merlo Coffee, May saw the amount of work that goes into each cup of coffee. That doesn’t mean baristas churning them out in a high-volume environment, but the logistics and roasting that happens before then.

The house blend, Crafted, is an everyday chocolate- and berry-led blend built around Colombian and Ethiopian beans. Other roasts explore flavours such as melon, bergamot and peach.

In store there’s ample room to sit and try the range; a gadget-filled retail section for those interested in home brewing, plus the occasional cupping (tasting) session. There’s also a small range of toasted sandwiches, grab-and-go Bircher, porridge and baked treats.

May welcomes the cross-section of locals who come down for a sit, or a takeaway before work. There are families, first-home-owners, air-conditioning mechanics and dog lovers who are just visiting Taco.
