Ethics of Style - Workshops and Exhibition

Thu 20th June, 2013 – Sun 21st July, 2013
The Light Factory Gallery
21 Brougham Street, Eltham
Price: $60.00

Fashion illustrators and designers are coming together to stitch up a snapshot of Melbourne's sustainable fashion scene. The exhibition and opening will introduce the public to three young, local fashion designers and seven illustrators. Each present a unique way of reducing waste, whether it be through recycling fabrics, restructuring garments or heat-pressing flower petals to create sustainable dyeing solutions.

Many people have the embedded idea that sustainable fashion results in deconstructed, hessian-bag-like outfits. A series of workshops, running alongside the exhibition, aim to help take away that preconception and insert sustainable ideas into the every day. On July 20, Peppermint Magazine's Leeyong Soo will be running a workshop inviting individuals to bring in disused garments and rehash them into new creations, and on July 27 artist Angie Rehe will also be hosting an illustration workshop focused on the fusion of fashion and art.
