Jagermeister Independent Music Awards

Fri 1st October, 2010
8:00pm – 12:00am
Forum Theatre

There’s a lot to be said about being an independent musician. You get to play beyond the constraints of major record labels and are free to follow artistic vision wherever it takes you. This is the case for many Australian musicians who are now becoming leaders on the world stage.

Many of these artists have begun their careers in Melbourne's renowned live music scene, so it's fitting that the fifth Jagermeister Independent Music Awards will be held at The Forum Theatre.

The awards are about recognising something unique - acknowledging that artistic accomplishment does not always go hand-in-hand with commercial success, and that the boundaries of creativity and ingenuity stretch far and beyond the top 40.

Past Jagermeister Independent Music Awards have seen the rise of some of Australia's leading artists, including previous winners Midnight Juggernauts, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Gotye, John Butler Trio, Gurrumul and Sneaky Sound System.

This year will crown another up-and-comer - but only after a league of Australia's finest musical talent has taken to the stage. The evening will feature performances from purveyors of punk Amity Affliction, new indie darlings Cloud Control, virtuosic jazz pianist Joe Chindamo, indie wunderkids British India, world-renowned singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann, and a hip-hop extravaganza from M-Phazes featuring special guests. Bascially it’s a really good gig.
