Every weekend the Typika crowd waits an hour for a table. Unbelievably, it was once a supermarket that couldn't buy a customer. And while the little supermarket that couldn't was always second to the local Coles, Typika is almost without rival in the compact but crowded Claremont brekkie and brunch market.

Peer between the punters to the open kitchen and you’ll see some unorthodox breakfasts on the pass among the classics. Bagels alongside beef-cheek croquettes, fruit salads next to Asian caramelised short beef ribs and eggs benedict off to the same table as its meatier mutant sibling, the spiced-beef benedict.

Those suffering from a big night out can opt for the outrageous bacon, banana and salted caramel French toast, while a revolving door of specials means there’s always something new.

House-roasted beans from across the globe form the basis of the coffees, prepped by some of the western suburbs’ best baristas. Don’t be surprised if you leave with a bag of beans to accompany your full stomach.
