Picking up groceries and tackling the endless list of household chores aren't necessarily the most exciting weekend plans. So, instead why not head to the Young Blood: Designers Market – an art and design market with music, food and creative workshops at the Powerhouse Museum – where you can get your shopping and creativity fixes.

Debuted in 2005, the Young Blood Designers Market has showcased many innovative works by upcoming designers from across the country. The event has become a regular at the Powerhouse Museum for it's dedication to fostering and promoting Australian designers.

From fashion and accessories to home ware and lighting, shoppers can peruse the isles to find a range of original pieces. Or chat up some of your favourite designers and learn the tricks of the trade. You can also try your hand at making your own tea towel at the creative workshops.

In-house DJ Pink Frost will keep visitors entertained on Friday while Bakelite Broadcasters and swing jazz musicians Bob Barnard and Paul Furniss will offer live performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Whether you are shopping, browsing or just taking in the scene, you will surely find this market to be a great way spend your weekend.
