Captain’s Rest
Captain’s Rest feels like being in the world of Moby Dick (minus the revenge and giant whales). This tranquil stay was renovated and decorated by interior designer, scientist and teacher Sarah Andrews after she found the run-down, heritage-listed coastal shack in 2016.
Located in Strahan, a secluded fishing village seemingly forgotten by time, the property was without power or running water. Its isolation made getting the cabin up to scratch a difficult task; Andrews spent months sourcing what she needed to transform it into a cosy waterfront cabin that leans into its seaside charm.
The small haven is simple, with one bedroom, a minimal kitchen, a claw-foot bathtub with unlimited hot water, a snug living space and a wood fireplace which keeps the cabin warm year-round.
Antique wide windows overlook views of the ocean and private jetty, where guests can stroll and take in the stillness with a morning coffee, or wine at sunset.
