The Camp is one of travel startup Riparide’s getaways, It's only a 30-minute drive from Byron Bay, but surrounded by bushland – and with 360-degree views of the Northern Rivers hinterland – it feels much further away than that.
The Camp is a canvas bell-tent, fitted with a queen-sized bed (with linen bedding), a couple of plants and chairs, and not much else. But that doesn’t mean you’ll be foregoing the luxuries of home. Connected to the tent via a short, wooden walkway is an architecturally designed cabin where you’ll find a hot shower, a compost bathroom and a kitchenette – all of which are solar-powered. Bringing the kids? There’s the option to set up an extra tent next to the main accommodation, or anywhere else on the 2.5-hectare block of land. While there’s power, there is no wi-fi, meaning you’ll have to look to nature to stay entertained.
Just a 25-minute drive from The Camp is popular Cabarita Beach – and there are plenty of other beaches nearby. Your tent comes with a bodyboard and a surfboard so you can take to the waves, and there are two yoga mats so you can salute the sun as it rises over the mountains. Plus, $20 from each stay is donated to not-for-profit marine conservation foundation Sea Shepherd.
