Opus Coffee Brewers

7:00am - 3:00pm
120 Keira Street Wollongong 2500

Opus Coffee Brewers is an espresso bar at heart but does more than just coffee and cake.

The space isn’t large, but Opus makes up for it with sleek design and a thoughtful set-up. Large windows let natural light beam onto the cafe’s many hanging plants. The coffee bar sits at the very entrance. A small kitchen and round communal table are up the back.

Co-owner Mel Cox ran Sifters Espresso at Sifters Co-Op before moving out in 2016 to open this with Bryce Jepson. She’s carried her enthusiasm for coffee here. [Single O]’s (/sydney/cafes/single-origin-roasters-cafe-and-sideshow) blend is always featured, and a rotating black coffee changes weekly for espresso, filter and cold brew. There’s also a dedicated retail shelf, with coffee beans and various brewing devices and accessories on sale.

Bagels are at the centre of the food menu and include such toppings as cured salmon and cream cheese. And roast mushroom, feta and salsa verde. Most of these ingredients are made in-house, including the bagels themselves. House-made granola and simple pleasures such as toast with spreads are also available.

Ceramic cups and plates from Magnolia Mountain and Paige Northwood further add to the clean design. Cox also makes her own striking cups, bowls and plates under the label Atelo Ceramics, which are available for customers to buy.
