Missed out on renting a boat to explore the Mediterranean with your best friends this year? With international borders showing no signs of opening up, frolicking in crystal blue waters around Greece or Croatia is pretty much off the cards for a while yet.

But while you can't jet off to Europe, you can cruise sheltered Sydney Harbour swimming spots. Boat hire companies aren't a new concept, but there's always room for a new company in the market. Enter My Sydney Boat – offering an 11-metre high-powered sports cruiser led by your own captain that can take you around the glittering Sydney Harbour for half-day trips. The vessel can take up to ten guests, meaning you can hire it for family adventures, a birthday party with your nearest and dearest, or splurge on a date with your significant other.

Swimming and snorkelling spots are on the agenda if you like, and during peak seasons you might be lucky enough to spot whales, dolphins and seals in and around the harbour. But by far the most enticing element of boat rental is the ability to hit up the lesser-known beaches of Sydney. Because My Sydney Boat has a flat bottom, it’s able to pull up right near the sand – great news if you're not as keen on swimming in the deeper waters and would prefer to lounge on the shoreline instead.

Aside from day trips, My Sydney Boat also offers a twilight cruise, whale tours (in season) and – if you're a bit of a sticky-beak – a cruise around some of the most affluent harbour areas to check out the incredible mansions sitting waterfront.

Packages can be customised (hello, proposals and anniversary celebrations) and you're welcome to bring food and drinks on board – although there is a surcharge. Not keen on packing a picnic? Catering is also available, from seafood platters to gourmet lunches paired with wine.

Prices start from $450, with the half-day harbour beach tour costing $1,480 for up to ten people.
