Features
As one of Sydney’s original organic cafe and grocers, About Life knows its quinoa from its quandong. The chain started life in 1996, as a small juice bar in Rozelle.
These days there are six stores. Each teems with health-conscious bodies, arms piled with organic produce and fair trade coffee.
There’s not much missing from the shelves. From unbleached flours and antibiotic-free meat; to organic vegetables and environmentally conscious cleaning products, About Life has made a business out of providing the full range of products you need to live a more responsible and healthy lifestyle.
That mission extends to readymade meals, which cater for dietary variations such as biodynamic, organic, gluten-free, high-protein, detox, vegan and low-sugar.
Given these restrictions, About Life’s chefs do a fair job. Dishes such as sweet corn and shallot fritters, haloumi burgers and colourful salads are all satisfying without being exceptional.
The chain’s sheer popularity, combined with a counter-ordering system, can cause delays and mix-ups. But as the staff and fellow customers are all glowing and zen-like, you’ll probably find it rubs off on you.
