It’s 11am. You’re starving but you’ve only got $11.90 in your splurge account. Good news – there’s a place you can go. It sells very good sandwiches, with nothing over $15. Chicken and avo. Curried egg. One with green things on it. Ding ding, It’s Recess.
This tiny spot by sandwich smiths Clark Wenborn and Paddy Levy is all about well-made, grab-and-go lunches that don’t cost the earth. Sandwiches are kept straightforward, made with only a handful of considered ingredients. Ditto for the salads – choose poached chicken and greens or veg and grains. The team also does catering.
Mecca coffee is brewing behind the counter, and there’s a tight little selection of pastries (croissants, pan au chocolat and friends) to go with it. If you’re here for brekkie, grab a BAE roll with chilli jam, or a yoghurt and granola cup with berry compote.
