Subtly pirate themed watering hole Button Bar can be found at an unmarked door at the lower end of Foveaux Street in Surry Hills; not even an X marks the spot, so if you've found it half the battle has been won. Don't expect talking parrots and bartenders in eye patches, the theme is executed in style with a rich, wood panelled fit out, a house rum presented in large barrels and a cute pirate themed logo housing the cocktail menus.
Button Bar is the third offering from the team who opened Pocket Bar and Stitch, joined by by Jimmy Sakajani (ex Ivy). Although the feel is very different in style to its predecessors the same quirk and high standard of drinks can be expected, with the welcome addition of free flowing pistachios that surely taste better for free.
To wash down those nuts, knowledgeable and prompt bar staff can offer you something from the extensive cocktail list. Perhaps a 'Devil's Work?', 'Pleasure Vessel' or the aptly named 'Pirate Jet' might tempt you? If cocktails aren't your thing, there is a good selection of whites, reds and rosés from Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Chile as well as a trusted range of beers and ciders.
Prepare to bunker down for the night, there are wild seas ahead.
