Features
A clean and uncluttered space greets you at Plunge No. 46 in Summer Hill. There are no decorative nick-knacks, just a compact display of cakes, plenty of seating and a coffee bar churning out Alchemy coffee. Tables spill out onto the sunny pavement of Lackey Street, and the quiet courtyard past the kitchen is open on sunny days.
Regulars flock for the Middle Eastern-inspired menu by chefs Lisa Northmore and Sedat Acma (ex- Efendy). There are not-so-standard breakfast dishes such as cous cous porridge with pomegranate and orange blossom mascarpone; crumbed cheese with poached eggs and hollandaise; and ricotta hotcakes with strawberries, honeycomb and maple syrup. Lunchtime mezze kicks in from midday: haloumi with Summer Hill honey and zaatar; dolma-stuffed silverbeet with rice, currants and cinnamon; or gozleme with lamb, spinach and feta.
Single estate coffee of the day might be Ethiopian, while daily specials might offer shakshuka baked eggs with sucuk and green olives; or meatball jaffles oozing mozzarella.
