When Kim Kelly proposed the idea of a bakery to Jaemin Song (ex-Black Star Pastry), the two agreed on one thing: cronuts, crookies and cruffins would have no place on the menu.
Instead, Baking 101 is devoted to the classics. The countertop is stacked with croissants, scones, and madeleines. Also, carrot cake shining with candied pecans and orange peel; a traditional Basque cheesecake; and oversized cinnamon scrolls smothered in silky vanilla icing.
Glass doors with maroon frames open into a old-timey space with antique chairs and a glitzy chandelier. An internal window looks into the kitchen, where you can watch the bakers in action.
