Known for its sustainable style and playful aesthetic, Tait’s outdoor furniture and accessories are built to withstand the Australian elements. Its colourful designs suit indoor and outdoor settings – a concept reflected in the design of its Melbourne and Sydney showrooms.

Tait was established in Melbourne by Susan and Gordon Tait. Coming from a background in sheet-metal work, Gordon created everything from boats to medical equipment before he began making furniture in his spare time. Susan worked as the creative director for a bath-and-body company. The pair began designing collections together and selling them to wholesalers, but eventually their creations warranted their own retail space.

Tait’s Sydney showroom features a colour palette inspired by the Australian landscape: green, charcoal, salmon and blue. The colours complement the designs rather than distract from them, with walls of block colour that help to create clearly divided product sections.

The pair is mindful of the way Australians entertain: in a relaxed, outdoor setting. They choose to work with designers who have a distinctly Australian style that is playful, colourful and suitable for an outdoor lifestyle. With a focus on sustainability, Tait uses locally sourced, durable materials that can be repurposed or recycled if need be.
