Suit Shop in Chifley Square is the second location for the bespoke suit service spin-off by P. Johnson.
The Chifley showroom was designed with timeliness – and clients in a hurry – in mind, so there are two areas for standing consults. But other clients, such as wedding parties, can settle in, sip on a drink and take some time out on the mohair velvet lounges in a rich blue.
Suit Shop’s speciality is suits under $1000, using cloth and trimmings from Italy and around Europe. There are thousands of fabrics and more than 200 different measurement and pattern aspects to choose from. Following a consultation with one of the in-house tailors, patterns and details are cut in London, then sent for construction. The entire process takes around four weeks.
The fit-out includes custom marble and terrazzo floor tiles; navy carpets; arched fitting rooms framed by white linen curtains; and ceiling-mounted hanging rails. The space is a calm oasis in the city.
You’ll also see photographs by provocative Japanese artist Daido Moriyama on the walls of the store, hung among collar samples, ties and other accessories. The works are intentionally displayed this way, so the art blends into the tableaus of beautifully crafted – and beautifully displayed – clothes.
