Steve's Cool Booze
With a large competitor across the road, Steve’s Cool Booze needs to do things differently. Owner Steve Casimatis is all too happy to oblige, shunning the same old beers in favour of the new and exciting.
Casimatis bought the shop in 2007, with his neighbour already in business. After plodding along for a few years, unable to match the buying power of his competitor, Casimatis hit upon craft beer as his point of difference.
Visit today and you’ll find an entire fridge full of Belgian brews. You’ll find Trappist beer. Beers from the US, New Zealand and Japan. Great local beers from Sydney brewers such as Batch, Young Henrys and Riverside. Big-name brands are also stocked but with a difference: all beers are imported from their country of origin – not made in Australia under licence.
Steve’s also has a growler-filling station. It’s hooked up to four regularly changing kegs, allowing easy access to seasonals and one-offs that otherwise aren’t bottled.
Like the beer selection, the wine range avoids shelf fillers and focuses on the best vintages from the best regions. There’s also a Scotch cabinet filled with fancy drams, many so rare they’re kept under lock and key.
