Skin and Threads

You might love their jeans, shirts and elegantly simple wardrobe staples, but until recently there wasn’t a dedicated Skin and Threads store in Sydney. That when the Australian fashion label opened its Sydney store in The Strand Arcade.
“We did do a lot of research and we weren’t exactly sure what we wanted to do, but it was more about the right timing,” says creative director Penelope Cohen, who is one half of the creative force behind the label, along with business partner Emma Gathercole.
“The Strand can be quite hard to get into, so when we were offered, it was perfect timing. I love The Strand and the Sydney CBD and we have a huge internet base in the city, so that was partly behind the location of the store.”
The new space is simple, with subtle touches by architect Demie Manolas (who also designed their Chadstone store in Melbourne) allowing neat racks featuring the Spring Summer 13/14 collection to shine, with confetti-like polka-dot dresses glowing alongside soft knits and loose T-shirts.
“We’ve only been open for a couple of weeks, but the new store has been received incredibly well. We’ve got a whole range of new customers coming through and discovering us, as well as the people who are our loyal fan base.”
There are plans for more Sydney stores, but for now, the latest collection can be found all in one place.
