Marimekko

Features
Created in 1951, Marimekko was made famous by the bold, artistic and graphic prints of the ‘60s and ‘70s. The Finnish fashion and textile brand stays current with an original philosophy that continues to resonate with customers, young and old.
Sustainability is at the core of its vision. The Marimekko team believes fashion shouldn’t be disposable; that we should cherish our possessions and choose items that enhance our personality and form part of our character.
In line with this, about 90 per cent of Marimekko’s stock is manufactured in Europe. This explains the hefty price tag, but it also explains the quality. The garments have a certain weight and texture that speaks of the care taken during manufacturing. Unlike most fashion houses, Marimekko’s design and manufacturing teams share the same headquarters, rather than being separated.
Marimekko today feels more vibrant than ever but remains loyal to its rich heritage and endless lineage of archival prints. There are more than 100 Marimekko retail spaces internationally.
Like their overseas counterparts, the Australian stores stock the latest collections of floaty dresses, baggy knits, silk shirts and colourful sleepwear. There’s also plenty of interior decoration items, handbags, umbrellas and other accessories.
