Features
If The Man Next Door was an actual man, he’d be a modern take on James Dean circa Rebel Without a Cause: classic and simple. Think perfect-fitting blue jeans, a white T-shirt, and a cashmere cardigan under a leather jacket.
The men’s store is the youngest member of the Balmain-based duckeggBLUE family. Its sister store is next door and there’s a furniture shop down the street.
With the warm decor and friendly staff, The Man Next Door has learned well from its elders. You’ll never hear the words “That shirt looks so great” unless the shirt does indeed look so great. The staff would rather customers walk out with nothing than with something that doesn’t suit them.
Premium fabric that’s beautiful to touch is an essential quality of every item in the store. Denim shirts and cashmere jumpers are from Jac + Jack; T-shirts and hoodies from James Perse; and jeans from AG Jeans and Citizens of Humanity.
Just like you wouldn’t find James Dean’s rebel in a suit, you won’t find suiting at The Man Next Door. The exception to the rule is the odd blazer: linen in summer, wool checks in winter. The shop isn’t big on patterns, either. Stripes might make a cameo, but otherwise it’s all about simplicity, classic colours and impeccable fit.
