It’s with good reason that Scandinavia has a reputation for design. A fact that is best highlighted when pieces by some of the region’s most renowned designers – including Hans Wegner, Jorn Utzon, Verner Panton, N.O. Moller and Grete Jalk – are showcased together, as they are at Great Dane.
Established in 2002 in Melbourne by founder and director Anton Assaad, Great Dane sources and imports the best of modern and classic Scandinavian furniture, lighting, accessories, textiles and rugs, along with a range of vintage furniture that is restored at the company’s workshop.
As Assaad explains, “Scandinavian design takes all the best ideas from the turn of the century and interprets them with deft, modern accents to produce pieces you will live with forever. I love the way that this furniture remains so devastatingly clean in its lines and yet retains a handmade character that somehow keeps it warm, human and accessible.”
Located on the Redfern end of Elizabeth Street, Great Dane’s Sydney showroom has been in operation since 2005 and is the go-to for timeless, functional and stylish Danish and Scandinavian furniture and interiors.
